As e-commerce behemoth Amazon continues to slash costs, it announced this week it’s laying off more than 18,000 workers, the most in company history. Most of the cuts will come from Amazon’s consumer retail business and human resources section. CEO Andy Jassy blamed the cuts on an “uncertain economy”, suggesting pandemic accelerated hiring coincided with pull-forward e-commerce demand.
