After a hiatus of six years, fintech giant Stripe is reentering the cryptocurrency market by allowing customers to accept cryptocurrency payments, starting with USDC stablecoins on platforms like Solana, Ethereum, and Polygon. The move marks a significant shift for Stripe, which had dropped support for Bitcoin in 2018 due to its volatility. The decision to reenter the crypto space aligns with Stripe’s broader strategy of expanding its financial services offerings and opening up its platform to integrate with other payment providers. Stripe co-founder and president John Collison quipped, “Transaction settlements are no longer comparable with Christopher Nolan films for length, and transaction costs are no longer comparable with Christopher Nolan films for budget.”
