Global Payments, the US-based worldwide payment processor, has agreed to purchase Worldpay from FIS and GTCR for $24.25 billion, focusing on expanding its merchant services capabilities. As part of the deal, Global Payments will sell its issuer solutions unit to FIS for $13.5 billion, allowing both companies to streamline their offerings and sharpen their respective market positions. The addition of WorldPay’s acquiring portfolio to Global’s existing payments processing business will make it one of the largest merchant acquirers in the world, second to only JP Morgan Payments.
